    The acronym MAN stands for Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg AG (Machine Factory Augsburg-Nuremberg AG). The company was created in 1898 through the fusion of the two operations Maschinenfabrik AG in Augsburg and Maschinenbau-Actiengesellschaft in Nuremberg and was the precursor of MAN.

  • Why does MAN have a lion as its company logo?

    The logo of all MAN vehicles depicts a stylised Brunswicker lion. Since 1971, the lion adorns the radiator grilles together with the MAN lettering. The heraldic animal was integrated out of respect for the company Büssing, which was taken over by MAN during the same year.

    In 1915, the production of utility vehicles began in a small assembly plant in Lindau on Lake Constance, back then still as M.A.N.-Saurer Lastwagenwerke – a joint venture with the Swiss Adolph Saurer AG. The plant produced cardan- and track vehicles. Only one year later, the production location was moved from Lindau to Nuremberg.

    TGA stands for "Trucknology Generation Typ A". The acronym describes a heavy vehicle series, which was introduced by MAN in 2000.

  • What does TGM stand for at MAN?

    TGM is short for "Trucknology Generation Typ M". This medium-duty series of 13 - 26 tons is being marketed as MAN TGM since 2005. The design was inspired by the TGA and later the TGS/TGX model.
